Weekly reflections

Week 9

This week, we delved into the fascinating world of gamification. We uncovered a treasure trove of educational games that could transform any classroom into a vibrant learning playground. Gamification isn’t just fun; it’s a powerhouse for engagement. By infusing learning with entertainment, it captivates students’ attention and makes knowledge retention a breeze. Think about it – how effortlessly do we recall song lyrics compared to textbook facts? That’s the magic of gamification at work. One highlight was exploring the PBS Kids website. Among its gems was “Molly of Denali,” a game that not only entertained but also celebrated traditional indigenous practices. From beading to dog sledding, it offered a rich tapestry of interactive experiences. Educational and entertaining, it’s a win-win for learning.

I saw Abby playing this game in class and thought it was super interesting! I thought with all of the FPPL we have been learning in our courses, that it’s cool to see it in technology and online as well! I will try to do some more research on computer games or websites that encourage Indigenous Learning!
