Week 10 – The End (For Now)

Well folks, we have come to the end of the 10 weeks of reflections. As for this last post, I think it will be just a bit of reflection on my learning.

I definitely improved over these ten weeks, although I wish in hindsight I made before and after videos of me speaking throughout the ten weeks. I also would have kept track of all of the new words I learned somewhere more organized. I just kind of have them in my noggin, and poorly written down on scrap pieces of paper. Regardless, as we wrap up I’m going to go over some of my favourite methods I have tried over this process!

Ranking from most liked/helpful to least

  • TikTok
  • YouTube
  • ChatGPT
  • Duolingo
  • Phone calls

I think the TikTok and YouTube were so helpful because they were so easy to consume, and to access at any point during the day. They also aren’t mentally taxing (getting graded on Duolingo an sometimes make me feel like I’m making no progress despite actually making progress), so it’s easier to kind of lock in and process what they’re saying. I do like TikTok the best though because the captions are in Italian, which helps with my spelling and my grammar. On many YouTube videos, the captions are in English, which kind of throws me for a loop. There is of course association, but I honestly prefer to see the Italian words so I can familiarize myself with them.

All in all, I’m incredibly glad that I decided to pursue this as my personal inquiry project! I think I definitely made the right choice, and hopefully this skill will stick with me for the rest of my life!
